Studies Show WHY Meat is Bad for Health

World Vegetarian And Vegan News: Research Begins to Find Out Exactly Why Meat is Bad for Health

Mass Muderer? Vandal?
Nutritionists and dietitians have long been aware of the link between meat consumption and chronic disease. Well they should be, even the UK Government, who inexplicably heavily subsidise the meat and dairy industry, has issued guidelines on maximum amounts of meat to eat to reduce risk of colon cancer and heart problems.

Up until recently nutrition, diet and health professionals tended to put the emphasis on eating more vegetables to increase intake of fibre and antioxidants and the protective vitamins and minerals found in veg.

They mused that vegetarians and vegans have healthier lifestyles, are less likely to smoke and have other factors in their lives that make them more prone to healthy living and longer lives.

But as scientists have tried to pinpoint in their studies and research the exact compounds in meat that thwart good health and long life they have uncovered not one but a host of potential culprits that gang up on our immune systems and overload one's body's ability to fight disease.

In the latest studies released this year scientists have been able to meticulously seperate out the risk factors in a person's diet and lifestyle and pinpoint how much or how little individual factors affect human health.

The results are damning for the meat industry. Major investors are now looking at plant based alternatives that can fulfil the public's demand for foods such as burgers and fried chicken that they've been nurtured to desire.

It seems likely that within a few years the bottom will fall out of factory farmed meat processing and packing industry market as stocks and share prices plummet from fear of litigation. The only place you'll be able to buy meat will be specialist butchers and delicatessens and it will probably have to come with a government health warning to grant legal immunity to sellers of meat and, as with cigarettes, pass on the responsibility of self harm to the consumers and users.

We predict the days when nutritionists and dietitiians change from being scared to advise you not to eat meat and dairy will soon be over. Soon nutrition and diet experts will be too scared to condone patients eating meat and dairy for fear of claims of malpractice and lack of due diligence.

Leading London Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston says "It seems the more researchers try to prove how innocent meat is in the human diet crisis the more evidence they uncover that damns it. In the end, like the cigarette industry, the fear of litigation will change the way we eat meat forever. The price of meat is likely to quadruple as subsidies stop and a health tax on staurated fat is applied to pay for rising health care costs. Much of the livestock farming industry is already on the verge of collapse as they struggle with rising fodder and feed costs. Only the small specialist organic farms and the really huge industrial dairy farms are making any meaningful profit. We should be prepared to see a very different rural english landscape in a few years time where we grow food based on vitamin, mineral, anti-oxidant and essential fat content rather than on calorie content."

Eggs : Risks to Health

Eggs Harmful to Health

Eggs Harmful to Health

May 15, 2013 Eggs increase the risk for heart disease and diabetes, according to a new meta-analysis published in Atherosclerosis. Researchers reviewed 14 studies and found that those who consumed the most eggs had a 19 and 68 percent increased risk for developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes, respectively, compared with those who ate the fewest eggs. For those who already had diabetes, the risk for developing heart disease from eating the most eggs jumped to 83 percent.

Debunking the paleo diet: Christina Warinner TED TALK

Debunking the paleo diet: Christina Warinner at TEDxOU - YouTube

A beautiful expert debunking of the myths that the popular Paleo diet fad is built on that claims we need to ditch grains and eat mainly meat at a TED Talk at TEDxOU

Stone Age Diet,  Paleo Diet , Primal BluePrint, New Evolution Diet, Neander Thin

Leading UK nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston says  "yes processed,  refined grains have a big part to play in the demise of health and rise of chronic disease but so too does modern processed meat. Ditching all grains in favour of meat and dairy for optimal health is delusional. Wholegrain wholemeal foods come with fibre and a host of vitamins and minerals especially B vitamins they are a much more useful food group than meat to combat the problems caused by our modern diet."

"This is a clear case of a little bit of knowledge is dangerous. All the evidence is pointing to a meat based diet is dangerous and increases risk and a plant based diet reduces risk. Yes if you ate wild rabbit and mountain grass fed goat or Scottish wild salmon then you'd likely end up with a better ratio of essential fats but how many people on a paleo diet eat that sort of meat? The evidence from the biggest studies show eating at least 8 portions of veg and fruit a day is the best way to reduce risk of chronic disease"

Natural Products Europe to Create Health Manifesto

Yvonne Bishop-Weston Nutritionist London: Vegan Diet Key Ingredient in Recipe for Healthier Nation says London Nutritionist

Yvonne Bishop-Weston Nutritionist London

Yvonne will be debating the key ingredients for a recipe for health for the UK at Natural and Organic Products Europe at London Olympia this Sunday.

Yvonne says one of the main ingredients for a healthier UK should be a move towards a more vegan diet.

"Research from Oxford University shows to achieve optimum health we should be eating 8 portions of fresh fruit and vegetables a day. It's at this point researchers see a dramatic reduced risk of preventable diseases such as coronary heart disease - one of Europe's biggest avoidable killers.

Processed meat 'early death' link - BDA in Dark

BBC News - Processed meat 'early death' link

So more damning evidence on the effects of processed meat on our diets. What was really worrying in this report by the BBC was not that meat has a clear cumulative, negative effect on health "Hello!" but was the reported reactions from so called experts. People who should know better.

Ursula Arens - News to her
Ursula Arens of the British Dietetic Association  ( BDA ) and  Sense about Science  had reportedly said

"..the study's finding that processed meat was linked to heart disease was new."

New? NEW????? Oh for goodness sake. Ursula grab a bottle of red wine and watch Forks over Knives ! Speak to President Bill Clinton!

Even a cursary look for evidence reveals studies dating back to 1982 and 1999 that link meat and dairy to heart disease. Perhaps Ursula Arens meant to say 'conclusive evidence' ?

Meat linked to Heart Disease study research since 1982
Studies Link Meat to Heart Disease since at least 1982
Then there was the poor deluded expert from the British Heart Foundation who are still clearly clinging on to a hope that they can avoid having to rewrite all their recommended meaty, cheesey recipes.

Tracy Parker, a heart health dietitian with the British Heart Foundation, said the research suggested processed meat might be linked to an increased risk of early death, but those who ate more of it in the study also made "other unhealthy lifestyle choices".

Clearly poor Tracy didn't have time to read the report before she commented to the BBC.

Prof Sabine Rohrmann, from the University of Zurich, agrees with Tracy  that high meat consumption, especially processed meat, is associated with a less healthy lifestyle

But , a big but
"But after adjusting for smoking, obesity and other confounders we think there is a risk of eating processed meat." said the Professor
Oh dear but Tracy Parker didn't stop there.
"Opting for leaner cuts and using healthier cooking methods such as grilling will help to keep your heart healthy."
Oh really Tracy? I can't find evidence of that, could you please urgently send me the research that shows grilled lean meat will help protect you from heart disease ?? Grilled lean meat in moderation may not kill you early if you eat lots of portions of vegetables (8 a day say Oxford University ) with it but to claim it's a health food is a stretch of wishful thinking. You'd have to specify 'grass fed, omega 3 rich, vitamin D rich' before you even get close. Wild goat perhaps or wild rabbit? Horse maybe? Didn't see that in the British Heart Foundation recipe list.

Leading UK Nutritionist in London Yvonne Bishop-Weston sums it up all up a little more sensibly
There are now a host of studies that conclusively show that eating less meat and more fruit and vegetables, particularly vegetables and beans such as in a vegetarian or a vegan diet can have huge health benefits. Whilst a good balance of essential fat is indeed essential for heart health, it can be gleaned from nuts , seeds, plants and algae whereas fish and dairy products can also add substantial amounts of calorific saturated animal fat into the diet. There are lots of confounding factors not mentioned in the study and the quest for optimal health can be more complicated, but eating less meat and substantially more vegetables is sound, evidence backed advice and a very good place to start !"
There are a good deal of dietetic health professionals and most of the UK's Doctors that should scoot along to Vegfest UK @ London Olympia to get a grasp of reality, or they are going to end up with cheesey, fishy, sausage and egg on their faces.

Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston is just one of the experts talking at Vegfest UK London compared by comedian Dave Spikey. Sales of  meat free Vegan Foods by leading Vegfest sponsor Frys are up by 30% and interest in vegan diets is at it's highest ever level.

Ex Vegan's Book Meat Fix 'Dangerous+ Deluded'

I ditched ‘healthy’ vegan diet for meat and went from fatboy to slim | The Sun |Woman|Health|Health

New book by a delusional ex vegan today tries to convince Sun readers that's it's not the fact that his new diet ditches starchy carbs, sugar and sugary foods and processed foods that helped him lose the weight and cure his IBS.

Neither was it the increased intake of green leafy veg.

No,  poor deluded John Nicholson flies in the face of scientific study and ubiquitous research and claims "It's the meat wot fixed me!"

London Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston says "of course everybody is different but sugary, sugar rich, starchy foods can feed the bad bacteria that can agravate IBS / Irritable bowel sydrome. It would be very unusual to find eating meat had helped cure his IBS and lose weight without serious dietary changes and a course of some specialised beneficial bacteria loaded probiotics that will re-populate the gut. Probiotics need pre-biotic fibre to flourish and meat doesn't have that."

"Although the goverment's 5 a day message is a little conservative (research shows you need more like 8 portions of vegetables a day to see health benefits ) along with advice about minimising meat intake it's much more backed up by science and research."

Link between TV, Children, Crime says NZ Study: Research

Study: Watching Too Much TV as a Child Can Land You in Prison

As hours of  weekday TV as a child increase,  risks of crime and prison also increase says study in New Zealand.

Time to stop using TV as a babysitter?

"Research also shows if children don't get outside and play there's an increased risk of a number of diseases. Low levels of vitamin D are just tip of a disease ridden iceberg for children" says London Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston
